About EPIC
EPIC Academy is a charter high school currently is in its third year of existence.  Our goal at EPIC is to prepare students with the skills for success beyond their high school experience.  Staff at EPIC Academy endeavor to facilitate this success by building strong relationships with students, setting high expectations for student performance, encouraging leadership, and preparing students for ‘tomorrow’ by advising on college and workplace skills.
 
Nature of Position
The role of a coach is to advise and instruct student athletes to prepare them for competition. Coaches work with student athletes both individually and as a team to facilitate optimal performance and enable growth in the sporting environment. Coaches employed at EPIC Academy recognize that ‘student’ comes before ‘athlete’, and expect high levels of participation and performance in both academic and sporting life. 
 
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities:
·        Have superior knowledge of the rules, techniques and strategies involved in the sport of basketball.
·        Understand the impact of physical fitness and individual abilities on health, safety and performance.
·        Have the ability to identify athletic potential and create a balanced team where athletes are placed in positions that maximize their strengths.
·        Understand the impact of mentality and motivation on student performance, both individually and as a team, and consequently place a strong emphasis on positive reinforcement.  Have the skills for encouraging positive mentality both prior and subsequent to games.
·        Be competent in administrative tasks such as scheduling practice and maintaining equipment and supplies.
·        Have confidence in liaising with teaching staff to ensure that student athletes maintain acceptable academic performance.
·        Have a STRONG commitment to EPIC Academy and the opportunity to coach.  Be reliable and punctual to ALL practices and scheduled events.
 
Minimum Requirements
·        At least 60 hours of college credit or an Associate’s Degree
·        Available three weekday afternoons for training
·        Availability for weekend/night competition
